Inspiration was the whole theme of my time creating today. It began by preparing for the SUO Challenge 380. This challenge is to CASE Christy the Designer. Step one was to check out her blog and be inspired by her creativity.

She has been doing a series of posts inspired by Nancy Drew books. My daughter just gave me Nancy Drew Mystery Stories #1: The Secret of the Old Clock for Mother’s Day to replace the copy that her grandmother, then I, then she loved until it was falling apart. I was instantly inspired by both Nancy Drew and Christy.

Brown card with blue rectangle on right side and green strip of patterned paper horizonal across center. Focal cream rectangle with gear and clocks stamped on it and edges darkened with brown ink. Sentiment rectangle says, "An unhurried sense of time is in itself a form of wealth. Bonnie Friedman"

I found Christy’s card inspired by The Secret of the Old Clock and let it further inspire my creation. We both used colors inspired by the book cover, circles and a clock image, and metallic embellishments.

What books inspire you? Are there any from your childhood? Or one’s you are reading now? Maybe challenge yourself to take inspiration from them and make a card.

Do you ever find yourself struggling to find inspiration? Christy helped inspire me this week. I want to help turn your crafting stress into success.

The inspiration for this card began with color. Colors representing the book cover created this card. The brown and blue represent the outdoors location on the book cover. The green strip matches Nancy’s dress and the reddish layer is meant to represent her hair color. The rectangular focal point mimics the clock–both in color and with a clock face die.

I thought I was going to be in trouble finding anything to represent the clock on this card. While Christy has four different Stampin’ Up!® clock stamp sets to choose from, I thought I had none. And, then I remembered, the Timeless Greetings kit had a clock stamp and I even found an unused clock ephemera. SAVED!!!

Different circle images were stamped on the background layer and metallic circular embellishments were added to give it some bling.

  1. Such a clever bit of inspiration, Angel. I discovered Nancy Drew when I was 10 years old and read almost every book in the series. The Secret of the Old Clock was certainly a favorite and I love how your card turned out with the clock face and the clever sentiment. Thank you so much for playing along this week with the Paper Players!
