Fall

This week has had the feeling of fall for me. Not the weather. The weatherman lied when they said we wouldn’t see above 90 degrees Fahrenheit again this year. It was above 90. But, the sense of fall as in things dying and getting ready for winter.

I’ve been feeling very much like the world around us is getting colder, darker, more desolate. Winter is coming.

Things feel like fall as in the season, but fall as an action is also appropriate to explain how life feels right now. A fall is never really expected. But, it’s a sudden descent from a higher place to a lower place. It is usually an uncontrolled descent. That is how the world feels to me right now.

And, there has been a lot of death happening in the world. This card was created during my Facebook LIVE on Thursday, September 11, 2025. The 24th anniversary of the fall of the twin towers and all the horrific events of September 11, 2001. It was also created the same week the world was responding to the death of Iryna Zarutska and the shooting death of Charlie Kirk.

It was created during the week it seemed so much was falling down all around us.

But, those of us who are Christians know the winter is not the end. Spring is coming. Jesus is coming back. All will be made right in the end.

“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.” Romans 8:18 (ESV)

We are living in a broken world which seems more and more broken every day. But, hang on to Jesus. He is coming back. Spring is coming.

Card Details

Are you broken by what is happening around you? Why not create a sympathy card? If not for others, than for yourself.

Dive into the theme of fall. The book I always reach for when I need one about death and grief for any age is “The Fall of Freddie the Leaf” by Leo Buscaglia. It equates death to the falling of the leaves. Some are violently ripped from the branches and others let go and fall softly to the ground when it is their time.

This card shows a tree with colored leaves ready to let go. The tree itself and the extra leaves are created with the Autumn Trees Dies set. The tree was stamped in Pecan Pie ink on Pecan Pie cardstock and then cut out with both the detailed and frame tree dies. The additional leaves are created with a die in both Crushed Curry and Cajun Craze.
