Meercats at Sunset: Three Ways

These meercats are so cute and have been inspiring me to create cards at all three levels: simple, casual, and avid. They remind me of watching the prairie dogs at Prairie Dog State Park or even seeing them pop in and out of their homes in the ground around some family/friends farmland. I did just read something that called prairie dogs “America’s meercats” so maybe it’s not so crazy that is what I think of when I play with this stamp set.

All three card levels used sponging to create a sunset scene on both the outside and inside of the card. For all three cards, I then stamped the meercat group on the front of the card and other desert images on the inside and then colored them in with the black Stampin’ Up! marker to create silhouettes.

To step it up to casual, the sunset layer was mounted on a Cajun Craze layer which were both adhered to the front of a Basic Black card base. A sentiment label was also added to the top of the card and included baker’s twine and braided linen thread.

To step it up even more, I added movement which made this card appropriate for the Inspire.Create Challenge featuring movement. I added the image of the meercat down in his hole and he is able to slide up to a standing position.

I also added a wobbler on the lizard. I was working on this card on Leap Day and thought it needing to have something leaping. Well, the lizard is not exactly leaping, but he is wiggling so maybe that counts. I tried coloring the lizard with a black Stampin’ Write marker to create his sihouette, but I just didn’t like losing all the detail of the stamp, so I added color with Stampin’ Blends.

The other element that stepped it up a notch on this card was the addition of cactus stamped on the Cajun Craze layer in Cajun Craze Ink.
