Poppies of Remembrance
When I think of poppies I think of red paper poppies, the American Legion, and Memorial Day. My brain was easily able to understand the color Poppy Parade and the images of the flowers using that color in the Designer Series Paper.
I didn’t know the significance of the purple poppies, so I decided to do some research. I don’t know that I’ve ever seen live poppy flowers in person (I probably have, but just don’t remember). Regardless, when I imagine poppies, they are always red. Doing my research on purple poppies, I discovered the purple poppy is recognized in the UK as the symbol of remembrance for the animals that served during wartime.
Red poppies are generally used as the symbol of remembrance for humans; the purple poppies are for the non-human animal soldiers.
