Show Your Love
How do you show your love? Does it take lots of money or the latest fad? Does it require expensive, elaborate, over-the-top gifts or demonstrations?
No, it requires a thoughtful expression of your heart. It means intentionally thinking of them and using what you have to create something that makes them feel special, seen, heard. It means paying attention to what feels like love to the other person.
Gary Chapman wrote “The Five Love Languages.” The premise of this book is that people feel more loved when you are speaking their “love language.” And, that means different things to different people.
The Five Love Languages
- Quality Time–making time spent with others a priority and really being with them and focused on them while you’re together
- Giving Gifts–giving of physical objects. They don’t necessarily have to be expensive, but must have thought behind them.
- Words of Affirmation–Using your actual words to express your feelings. Telling people what positive things you see about them and not assuming they already know.
- Acts of Service–Helping or doing things for those you love. Big flashy gifts don’t means as much as taking on a chore you know they hate.
- Physical Touch–Not just sexual touch, but sitting close, putting a hand on their shoulder, playing with their hair, a kiss and hug as they leave or enter the house.
At first glance, which is your love language? Are you surprised to see the differences? Are you surprised to know that how you prefer to receive love may not be the same way you show love? Are you suprised to know others don’t experience love the same way you do?
Let’s be detectives and go on a mission between now and Valentine’s Day. Let’s be intentional and really pay attention to see what most feels like love to those in our lives.
My love language is acts of service. What about you?
Card Details
Mr. Beaver’s love language may be giving gifts. Or maybe his loves love language is gifts. He is presenting a heart created with items he has readily available to him. Maybe they are sticks from their favorite beaver dam where they met.
If you’ve been following my blog lately, you’ve seen my love for puns. This was not my original idea. I first saw this idea on an inspiration card for the Tic Tac Toe Challenge. It was created by Jeanne at Spectrum Ink. Thank you, Jeanne. I am thankful your card sparked the inspiration for this card.
What could be more perfect than “wood” puns with the beaver?
And of course there had to be bees on the inside of the card to make sense of the extra e in “bee mine.”
