How I Spent Memorial Weekend.
I spent most of Memorial Weekend working on as many cards to spread joy to as many people as possible. This massive project began on Thursday with Stampin’ Up!s Day of Service.
The day began with Zoom meetings for a One Sheet Wonder and the Double Wonder. There are tons of one sheet wonder patterns out there you can find and use that create anywhere from seven to 16 cards out of one piece of 12″ x 12″ piece of Designer Series Paper. For this project, I chose to use the pattern posted by Kristina Rees that makes 11 cards.
I also had a Zoom crafting session to create the Double Wonder set of cards using developed by Shannon West. This pattern creates 11 cards out of 2 6″ x 12″ pieces of Designer Series Paper. This is the same pattern we used during a team Zoom crafting time earlier this month. So, I have three sets of Double Wonder cards–1 from the team meeting, 1 practice set, and 1 from this week.
My final online crafting party of the day was the Day of Service creating party on Sara Douglass’ Stampin’ Up! CEO Facebook Page. It was so much fun to get to create with Sara and her kids and all get ready to #sharesunshine together. I used Sara’s pattern for her “4-part design.” We were told usins 3 12″ x 12″ pieces of Designer Series Paper would give you 20 cards. Much to my delight, using the 3 pieces of DSP, I ended up with 24 cards.
One of the things that I was most struck by during the FB LIVE with Sara Douglass and family was talking about this design as a four-part design. It made a lot of sense to me to break this project down into four parts and not feel the need to finish everything all at once.
For my projects, I actually completed the first two steps on the first day. For me those steps were choosing which Designer Paper Series patterns I was using a coordinating colors of cardstock and then cutting the cardstock into card bases and Designer Series Paper according to the patterns being used.
I needed to take a day off in between phases of this project. That’s OK, by the way. If you need to take some time to do cook dinner, play with your kids, sit outside, or take a nap, it’s OK!!! I can hear you saying now, what to I do with my half finished project that is all over my table. I know not everyone has a space they can leave their project out and just shut the door. I would recommend putting all you need for your project in a plastic shoebox size tub, get it out and work on it while you can, and then put it all back in the tub and put it away while you’re taking a break between project stages.
I then worked on phase 3 and added sentiments to the cards. I saved the Peaceful Poppies cards until Memorial Day to work on them and added sentiments from the Peaceful Moments stamp set and embellishments from the Peaceful Poppies Elements.
The rest of the cards were finished off using sentiments from the #sharesunshine pdf and finished off with embellishments to add that extra special homemade touch.
Now, it’s my time to add personal notes to the cards and send them to their very special recipients.
I made a lot of cards this week and now I plan to send a lot of cards as well.
- 11+11=22 one sheet wonder cards
- 11+11 = 22 double wonder cards
- 24 Stampin’ Up! Day of Service Cards
- 22 + 22+ 24 = 68 cards since Thursday + 11 double wonder cards from earlier in May = 79 total cards
WHEW!!! No wonder I’m tired. Now to get them in the mail.
