Finding Alone Time
A lot of people were so thrilled to be connected to the world again once things opened up after the pandemic shutdown, that they jumped right back into going and doing and being around others. The thought of finding alone time never even occurred to them since they had felt isolated and shut off from the world for so long.
Did the shut down really create alone time? If you lived by yourself–maybe. If you live with a family and suddenly you were all home together trying to manage school and work from the four walls of your house–I don’t think so.
Alone time was hard to find when suddenly your house was not just the place to come and rest at the end of the day, but also filled the roles of:
- School
- Office
- Movie Theater
- Gym
- Church
When we were able to get back out there to other buildings that filled those roles and see faces other than those of our families, we jumped at the chance.
But, have we forgotten the importance of finding alone time? Have we forgotten how to find stillness and time to be alone with our own thoughts? Have we forgotten how to think? to breathe? to just be?
Alone Time in the Woods
The men in my family find their quiet and alone time in the woods with wildlife. That is what inspired this card for the Just Add Ink Masculine Challenge this week.
Not only does this card feature die cut deer in a wooded grove, the colors themselves make me think of stillness. I see the dark silhouettes against the deep green and purples and think of dusk–that time of day when the business of the day is winding down. Things are naturally becoming slower and settling down as it is time to rest.
Wherever you find alone time, whether it is in the woods, on your porch, or even in another room of your house, I hope you use it to find time to slow down and rest.
