Follow the Sun

Have you ever heard that sunflowers follow the sun? Yet, when you look at a field of sunflowers they are not moving? I wondered if sunflowers following the sun was true or just a myth, so I did a little research. Here’s what I found out from several sources including “Science” magazine.

Sunflowers Following the Sun

  • Yes, when sunflowers are growing, they follow the sun from East to West and their root system reorient them toward the East over night
  • No When they are full grown, mature they no longer follow the sun. They stay facing the East.
  • That means their faces soak up the sun in the morning.

If you’re ever lost, and by a field of sunflowers, you can figure out the direction because full grown sunflowers will always face East. How cool is that?

Want an easy way to make a card feel special? Add layers. Find patterned paper and specialty paper to make a frame for your featured item. Then, frame the sentiment as well, using more coordinating cardstock. Pop some of the elements up with dimensionals and you have a card with texture and dimensions.
