Masculine Cards

When you go card shopping for that guy in your life, what makes you choose a specific card? Or, if you are making why do you choose the products you’re going to use? What makes masculine cards masculine?

That was a question I struggled with this week as I was choosing my favorite for As You Like It Challenge. Masculine or feminine? Which are my favorite cards to make. If you want to get technical, my favorites are gender neutral. Cards that can be used for either gender. But, if I’m forced to choose between masculine and feminine, I’m going to choose masculine.

Why? Most masculine cards are in fact gender neutral. Unless they specifically mention a male role, like father or dad or have an image of a human male, I think they would work for either gender. Plus, people often talk about how hard it is to come up with masculine cards. And, I like a challenge. 🙂

Elements of Masculine Cards

  • Darker colors
  • Wildlife
  • Human males
  • Simple or punny sentiments
  • Their favorite hobbies
  • Characters with moustaches

Leave off Masculine Cards

  • Lace
  • Ribbons and Bows
  • Rhinestones and Pearls
  • Flowers as the focal point

Anything else?

What makes a card masculine? What do you think.

Brown card with color blocking layer, each color cardstock stamped in same color ink with Taco Fiesta stamps. Some of the stamped images have faces with moustaches. The card blocks are deep colors--red, yellow, olive green, and rust. The sentiment says "Spec-taco-lar"

Do you need a special card for the man or boy in your life but you don’t know where to start? I want to help you turn your crafting stress into success.

Start by choosing a stamp set that represents a favorite in their lives. Favorite food, hobby, animal, etc.

Then, choose colors that go well with the images and are colors they enjoy.

Next, cut the different colors into blocks that will fit together nicely on a card front. Stamp a different image on each block either in black or the same color ink as the cardstock.

Finally, add a sentiment. I love to use puns and maybe some fun faces to your stamped images. Moustaches are always good for a laugh.

Voila!!! You now have the masculine card you need.
