Mass Produce or One of a Kind?

When you are crafting/creating which do you prefer, to make one of a kind projects? or to mass produce some of your best work? Which is more therapeutic to you?

For me, I generally like to produce one of a kind work. Somehow the entire process from creating a design, choosing materials to work with, seeing the project coming together, making any necessary tweaks to the design as I go along, and holding a completed project in my hand is therapeutic to me. It is relaxing and even if I start out in a mood, ,the anger, frustration, or whatever seems to just move right out of my body before the project is completed. It’s a cathartic process. My emotions tend to find their way into my projects. Perhaps that’s why I only like to create one of a kind masterpieces. Each one is an expression of part of my soul and I don’t really like to repeat the same emotional experience more than once.

For some, the therapy is in the repetitive motion of creating something amazing over and over again. Calmness and peace comes when they can see a pile of cards growing, knowing their card giving needs will be covered for a while.

Which is more like you?

Here is the exception to my one of a kind project plan of action. One of my absolute favorite things about Stampin’ Up! is being part of a team. When we get together as a team, we often swap cards. So, we each make a certain number of our card and then swap with other team members so we end the day with a bunch of amazing designs to inspire.

This weekend I had two meetings involving swaps and I was supplying a make and take project for one of them. You may have noticed some days of silence on this blog. I wasn’t gone, I was just franticially preparing for the amazing weekend. I had three different designs to mass produce this week, so I tried to break down the process into several steps. I took pictures along the way to try to help explain my process.

Step 1: All cardstock and DSP cut to size
Step 2: Punches, Embossing, and Die Cuts Complete

Step 3: Stamping and Coloring with Stampin’ Blends Complete

Step 4: Assemble projects
This meant all sampler squares completely assembled.
Three make and take cards completely assembled and the rest ready to
be assembled by team members.
KC=MO stampers swaps all parts cut to size, stamping and coloring
finished, but card parts not glued together until car ride to Kansas City.

If you find crafting/creating therapeutic for you at all, you should consider joining my team. We not only support each other, share ideas, share swaps when we get together, and find card making therapeutic at home in our own crafting spaces. Sometimes, we get to come together to laugh, learn, stamp, and maybe even cry some together. Just this weekend, we had two events in the Kansas City area.

Daveda’s Stamping Sisters had a team meeting on Friday night and then we joined the KC-MO stampers on Saturday for another full day of learning, creating, and having fun.

As a GRRRace Inker (my team) you will be invited to all GRRRace Ink team events, Daveda’s Stamping Sisters events, KC-MO meetings, Hearts of Oz meetings, and Stampin’ Up! events. You can participate in as many or as few as you like, but your team will be here to support you no matter what.
