The First Easter
What does Easter mean to you? I made this card for the SUO Challenge 346: Easter or Spring. When faced with the task to create an Easter card, I knew it was going to feature a cross along with a message about the first Easter Day.
Easter is about life. The first Easter was the resurrection of Jesus–life bursting forth from the tomb. “He is not here; He has risen.”–Matthew 28:6. Jesus resurrection gives us hope for our resurrection. Death is not the end.
The butterflies on this card also symbolize hope and life. The caterpillar is wrapped up in the cocoon and emerges transformed as a beautiful butterfly.
Butterflies may not be a typical symbol of Easter, but they do represent hope and transformation.
Other Easter symbols that represent new life are lambs, chicks, baby bunnies, and Easter eggs. Plus, new life is arriving everywhere during the springtime–flowers, green grass, leaves on trees, baby animals and humans.
What symbols do you use to represent Easter hope and new life?
Card Details
This card features the empty cross and message of that first Easter morning front and center. “He is not here; He has risen.” Matthew 28:6.
The patterned paper background on the front of the card comes from the Nature’s Sweetness Designer Series Paper. I cut two different 4″ x 5 1/4″ patterned pieces at the same time and then mixed them up so I had two card fronts with both patterns showing. You get two similar cards yet with subtle differences.
The touches of gold in the patterned paper, gold foil cross, sequins, and gold & faux leather ribbon add just the right touch of elegance. And, don’t forget those Brushed Brass Butterflies bringing hope and transformation.
