Total Solar Eclipse

This month the U.S. experienced an awe inspiring phenomenon–a total solar eclipse. Not all of the U.S. experience the eclipse in totality, but there was a diagonal swath through the country.

In Kansas, we were not in the path of totality, but watching a partial eclipse is still an amazing sight. So, outside I went with my solar eclipse glasses from Sonic® and enjoyed the view of the partial eclipse.

What about you? Were you in the path of totality? Did you get to experience even a partial eclipse? The next time a total solar eclipse will happen in the U.S. will take place in 2044. Even that one will only be visible from three US. states. But, 2045 will bring a chance for a greater part of the country to experience totality.

So, are you going to wait the next 20 years or so to see a total solar eclipse in the U.S. or are you going to travel to experience a solar eclipse in another country? Or is experiencing a total eclipse not even on your bucket list?

Yellow card with black card front with image representing a solar eclipse. Circle cut out of the black card front and replaced back in same hole with dimensionals. Pastels create suns corona. Yellow sentiment label says, "Let's Celebrate!"

Card Details

Want to create a card that looks like the solar eclipse you experienced? Or maybe the one you wish you experienced?

  • Start by cutting a circle out of the middle of the black card front layer.
  • Then use pastels to create the corona that you can see around the sun during a total eclipse.
  • Adhere the black card front layer to the front of your yellow card.
  • Replace the black circle you cut out of the middle of the black card front layer with dimensionals.
White inside of card with smears of pastels around the image. The sentiment says, "Sending you sunny thoughts."

To create a total solar eclipse look, adhere the black circle die directly over the cut out hole. To create a partial eclipse look, adhere the black circle die slightly off center of the die cut hole so you can see part of the yellow card showing through.

Use your pastels to add color around the edges of the inside of the card.
