Video: Twisted Gatefold Strawberry Card

This month had five Thursdays, which means FIVE cards with the featured stamp set. And, it usually means something fun for the fifth Thursday. 🙂 This month, I decided to create a twisted gatefold fun fold card. And for an extra bonus, I wanted to create a 3D strawberry for the front of the card.

This card was so much fun to create. I do mention the measurements needed in the video, but here they are if you want to get your paper pieces ready before you start the video.

Cardstock: 7 1/2″ x 4 1/4″ scored on the long side at 2 1/2″ and 5″
You will also score the two end sections diagonally, but please watch the video to see which direction to score them.

Then you will need pieces cut 2 1/4″ x 4″. You will need one basic white for the center inside panel. And you will either need 2 or 3 pieces of DSP depending on whither you want to cover all remaining cardstock triangles not. You will need to cut your DSP rectangles diagonally, but you will want to choose which pattern you want where before deciding which ways to make cuts.

I decided I wanted a bonus surprise on this fun card. I chose to make my strawberry on the focal point of the card front a 3D version. I punched out three strawberries and folded them each in half and glued them together to give the strawberry more dimension.

This week you get a bonus card on my weekly video post. I had so much fun looking at all the different ways to create gatefold cards, I wanted to keep trying different designs. Then, when I saw the sketch for the Paper Players challenge this week, I knew I wanted to turn it into a vertical card and create a cross-over gatefold tutorial.

I also wanted to use more of the patterns from the retired Berry Delightful DSP before I put it away for good. So, my cross over panels have patterns from the DSP representing three different type of berries–raspberries, strawberries, and blueberries. The sentiment label is only attached to the center panel. The top and bottom panels can tuck behind it to help keep the card closed, but still allow it to be opened as well.

Did you know there are lots of different gate fold fun folds out there? Now that I have started playing with the different types of gate fold cards, I may not stop. Keep watching this blog and see how many more I can come up with. 🙂
