What do you do when you don’t have what you need for a project? Improvise!!

What do you do when you have a creative idea but don’t have all the necessary products to make that idea a reality? You improvise!!! Part of the creative process is being able to imagine how to use something outside of it’s intended use or make adaptations to make things more user friendly for you.

I had an idea for using the Stampin’ Up! Snow Globe Shaker Dome as a fishbowl for a shaker card. I did not, however, have any fish rubber stamps or dies or the Snow Globe Scenes dies to cut out the perfect shape for the fishbowl.

So, what to do? Improvise. The layering circles dies create almost the right size opening for the shaker dome. An extra few cuts with my scissors made that a possibility.

Now, what to do about the fish? Lots of trying different patterns, sizes, papers, I ended up with these cute origami fish hanging out in my fishbowl. To get the right dimensions for this fishbowl, I had to use 1″ x 1″ squares to create this origami fish. Folding something that small doesn’t leave a lot of room for detail.

The lesson I learned from today’s project is that creativity is not limited by your supplies on hand. Creativity sometimes involves making adaptations so things work a little differently or work how you need them to work. It also involves going outside of your comfort zone and trying something a little different to get the result you want.

I don’t normally use oragami on my card, but why not. If you need an image and you don’t have the perfect stamp, do some paper folding or cutting to create what you need.
