Season of Thanksgiving

We have officially entered the month of November, and what some consider the season of thanksgiving. What about you? Do you think of thanksgiving as a season–a few weeks long? Do you only focus on giving thanks when the Thanksgiving holiday is close? Do you skip straight to thoughts of Christmas and forget about the “season of thanks” totally?

Or, do you take time to stop, look around, reflect, and give thanks all year? In your life, thanksgiving is not a season. It is a lifestyle.

What is your natural attitude as you go through life? Do you usually think the best or the worst about what’s going on around you? When things go wrong do you naturally dwell on the bad? Do you automatically start thinking worst-case-scenario about everything? Or, do you pause, take a deep breath, and look for something to be thankful for?

No matter what happens in life, there is always a reason to give thanks.

Thanksgiving Examples

  • Your sink is full of dirty dishes–You can give thanks for the food that was on them and the friends or family who helped make them dirty.
  • Your grass is getting long and needs mowed again.–You can give thanks for the rain that has come to help your grass grow, give thanks for your lawn mower (person or machine).
  • Mud has washed over the sidewalk and blocked your pathway.–you can give thanks for the rain that has created that mud. You can also give thanks for the sidewalk being there for you to use all the times it is clear.
  • When your body is sore after a long day’s work–give thanks for your job. Give thanks that your body worked for you how you need it to. And, give thanks for a place to come and rest at the end of the day.

When anything bad happens, look for the good. Look for the helpers. Someone will eventually clear that sidewalk. Be thankful for those who keep our sidewalks clean. When you hear sirens, be thankful for the first responders. When the world seems scary and nothing is right, look for those who are making a difference. Those who help, even if help is a small as picking up a piece of trash and throwing it away or holding a door open as you go into a building.

Look for the good. It is there. You just have to look and pay attention.

Card Details

The Stampin’ Up! Only Challenge for this week was a food or drink theme. But not only literal food or drink. Using Stampin’ Up! colors named after food or drink worked just as well.

For my interpretation of SUOC339 I decided to stick with the thanksgiving theme. Thanksgiving desserts to be exact.

This card is a fall card with a gratitude sentiment. The reason it fits the parameters for the challenge are the colors used: Pecan Pie, Pumpkin Pie, and Very Vanilla.

I don’t know about you, but just the thought of that makes me long for Thanksgiving dinner. Which pie is your favorite? Pecan or Pumpkin?
