Does Combining Colors Scare You?

Does the thought of choosing the right color combination scare you a little bit?

Do you try to stick with neutral colors and are afraid to venture out of your comfort zone?

Do you finally throw up your hands and just decide you’d rather live in a black and white world?

Well, I have some good news for you. Choosing just one color and adding it in different shades of the same color (darker and lighter) with different textures and layers can be an amazing way to add color to your artwork, card, life . . .

Tone on Tone Friendship Flowers Card

This card was made with lots of different products using one color–Coastal Cabana. I even added color to the black and white patterned paper by coloring in some of the flowers.

The pile of layered flowers featured in the center of the card are all fussy cut from Hues of Happiness Designer Series Paper. The paper has a rainbow of hues/colors to choose from and then images of varying shades of each color.

The varying shades, shapes, and types of flowers gives a bit of extra interest. There is enough variation of color to create interest, but yet it is all technically the same color.

One of my very favorite things about Stampin’ Up! is their color coordination. If a product says it is Coastal Cabana, it is the exact same color as the other Coastal Cabana products. All their Coastal Cabana products will work together perfectly.

So, if you are afraid of choosing colors, start small. Choose one color and create something tone on tone and maybe throw in some of your favorite neutral colors to add extra interest.

    1. Thanks Stef. I really debated which color to choose. Any of them from the Happiness Abounds Suite would have been wonderful
