Five Little Monkeys

Have you ever heard the nursery rhyme about Five Little Monkeys? It was one of my favorites. Maybe because I was called a monkey from my birth. 🙂

It was something I loved using with my kiddos. I think all kiddos are like crazy monkeys jumping on the bed . . . or is it just mine?

Five Little Monkeys inspired this card. Here are the lyrics:

Five little monkeys jumping on the bed.
One falls off and bumps his head.
Mama calls the doctor and the doctor says,
“No more monkeys jumping on the bed.”

Four little monkeys jumping on the bed.
One falls off and bumps his head.
Mama calls the doctor and the doctor says,
“No more monkeys jumping on the bed.”

Three little monkeys jumping on the bed.
One falls off and bumps his head.
Mama calls the doctor and the doctor says,
“No more monkeys jumping on the bed.”

Tso little monkeys jumping on the bed.
One falls off and bumps his head.
Mama calls the doctor and the doctor says,
“No more monkeys jumping on the bed.”

One little monkey jumping on the bed.
He falls off and bumps his head.
Mama calls the doctor and the doctor says,
“Put those monkeys back to bed.”

Light green slimline card with yellow cardstock on front. White interactive cardstock strip has five monkey punches on it. The bottom of the card front has a bed made from patterned paper with bed posts that look like tree leaves. Yellow ribbon is at top of interactive element. Bottom hangs out under the bed and says, "Pull"

Card Details

Do you look at interactive cards and automatically think they are too difficult to create yourself? I want to help turn your crafting stress into success. Hopefully, seeing this video will show you how you too can create an interactive card.

Begin by creating a slimline card. This one is 8 1/2″ x 6″ then folded in half to create card 8 1/2″ x 3″. Create a slimline card with layers of cardstock and patterned paper. Then, create a paper pieced bed at the bottom of the card.

Now, it’s time to create the fun interactive element.

Creating the Interactive Element

  • Cut a piece of white cardstock thinner than your cardstock layers and paper pieced bed.
  • Use a blade to cut a slit along the bed and top of the card wider than your interactive cardstock piece.
  • Slide the interactive piece through both slits
  • Add decorative elements on cardstock between slits.
  • Cut bottom into arrow shape and write pull on it.
  • Cut top into arrow shape and punch hole.
  • Pull interactive strip down through until no monkeys are left jumping on the bed.
  • Measure and cut ribbon so it’s long enough to not be pulled through top of card.
  • Tie ribbon in a knot and reset interactive element.

This card can act out the Five Little Monkeys nursery rhyme. The little monkeys are jumping on the bed. It starts out with all five and goes all the way down to all five falling off the bed. Then you can pull the ribbon back up to put all five monkeys back to bed.
