Simple or Stepped Up

When you get ready to create do you look for something simple or stepped up? Do you want to create with only stamps, ink, and paper? OR Does a card not seem complete without a little something extra?

Today’s blog post shows the same design created both as a #simplestamping card and the stepped up version. The simple version is the card created with my featured stamp set for June–Zany Zoo. The creation of this card happened for my weekly Facebook video tutorial. Check out the video below.

I also created a stepped up version of the same design. Keep reading for a picture and details of the stepped up version as well.

White birthday card with stamped skunk image holding binoculars with bird on his head at center of card. Sentiment is stamped directly under skunk and says, "Happy Birthday to you." Black and white patterned paper strip across bottom of card front.

Card Details

Do you want to create a card but need something really simple using only stamps, ink, and paper? I want to help you turn your crafting stress into success.

The simple version of this card is created by stamping directly on a Basic White Cardstock base. The skunk is stamped and then colored in with various Stampin’ Write markers.

Blue card with brown embossed card front layer to look like tree bark. Cur out image of paper skunk holding binoculars with bird on his head on card center front. Circle sentiment label is under skunk and says, "Happy Birthday to You." Strip of black and white patterned paper colored with lime green ink is at bottom of card front. Out zoo crew animals are along bottom paper strip--pig hiking wearing backpack, mole chasing butterflies, and opossum holding camera looking at a flower. Card is finished with metallic dot embellishments.

The Stepped Up Elements

  • Choose colored cardstock for the card base.
  • Add an embossed layer in a different color cardstock.
  • Use a blending brush to add color to the strip of patterned paper.
  • Cut out several animals from the Zoo Crew DSP to add to the card front (including the skunk)
  • Cut out the stamped sentiment with a circle die before adding to card front
  • Add die and some animals using dimensionals.
  • Add brushed metallic dots as a final touch.

  1. Angel, camping certainly fits the criteria of adventure and it’s one of my favourite things to do! I love that so many of those critters from the DSP fit the camping theme! Thanks for joining us for our 300th challenge at As You See It Challenges.

  2. Cute critters, Angel. Camping and adventure are indeed friends. I like that you’ve done both a straight forward and stepped up version. My fave is the simple version – the black with strong pops of colour is very striking. Thanks for joining in with our 300th challenge at AYSI. 🙂
