Spinning Gear
What kind of cards are the most fun to receive? I don’t know about you, but I love to give and receive cards with interactive elements. Something a bit unexpected. This card has a spinning gear.
I tried to create a bit of interaction on an earlier card using Stampin’ Up!®’s Gears & Texture Bundle. I did manage to make gear that would spin as long as you were moving them. They were attached with brads which did give them movement, but they did not spin on their own.
I had seen examples of card elements spinning freely and that is the experience I wanted to create. Well, I discovered they were using nail spinners.
Did you know there are spinners you can attach to your fingernails and then put something on top of them to spin? I must be living under a rock, but I had no idea those existed. So I bought a package. And no, I have no intention of adding spinning elements to my fingernails. But, they do make some pretty great interactive card elements. Check out the video below to see this card in action.

Do you want to create interactive, spinning elements on your cards. I want to help turn your crafting stress into success. The secret is nail spinners. Here is the link to the ones I found on Amazon.
Here is a picture of the interactive card I created earlier using brads to help the gears spin.

This card was created for the Stampin’ Up! Only Challenge #401: Sketch Challenge. I created my card using the sketch. I stamped the circular texture element from the Gears & Textures stamp set to represent the wreath on the sketch and then placed my gear die about it. I can’t wait to see what this sketch inspires you to create. SUO Challenge #401 will stay open through Sunday, May 24. Please join us at SUOC401.

Order the class for $30 and get your supplies ready to craft away. Live class is May 21 at 2:00pm MT. You can watch live or watch the recording after at any time.
CLASS DETAILS – Access to 1 digital video class
– Makes 4 projects (2 custom-size cards with custom envelopes, 1 box, 1 6″ x 8″ [15.2 cm x 20.3 cm] decor piece) using the Paper Medley Mix-In Designer Series Paper and other select products, all sold separately

I must be living under that rock with you! I didn’t know about nail spinners either but love how you’ve used them on this fun interactive card. Love the simple elegance of this. Thanks for joining us at Just Add Ink.
Thanks Lou! These nail spinners are going to get much more use on cards at my house than they ever would on nails.
Very cool!! The spinning detail is so fun! I also love the background you created!!
Thanks Tammy. I love those spinners! 🙂
Lovely collage style stamping. Totally fun spinner! I wouldn’t put them on my fingernails either! Perfect for a card though. Chantell Just Add Ink
It was pretty great of someone to invent something that works so well on cards, even if that’s not what it’s meant for
