Watercolor or Blends?

What is your favorite way to add color to a line stamped image? Do you prefer watercolor or blends (markers)? Or maybe something else entirely?

Brown card with rectangle of rust colored monochromatic paper in center of card featuring rust colored sunflowers. On top of patterned paper rectangle there is a stamped bundle of fall flowers colored with Stampin' Blends alcohol markers. There is also another bundle of fall flowers fussy cut from patterned paper. The sentiment label says, "Thinking of you."

I have been experimenting with different coloring mediums and the floral bundle in the new Radiant Sunflowers stamp set. This card was created using water painters with Stampin’ Ink. Previously, I used Stampin’ Blends to color the floral bundle in this stamp set. Which do you prefer?

I think I prefer the watercolor. I know I prefer the act of watercoloring rather than using alcohol markers. but I think I also prefer the look of watercoloring. Next time, I plan to use watercolor pencils and we’ll see where those fall on the preference scale.

Rust orange colored card base. Layer on top half of the card is yellow cardstock embossed with sunflowers. Bottom half is a rust color plaid with thin brown and yellow lines. Featured image is bundle of fall flowers, watercolored. "Enjoy" is stamped in black at the bottom of the card.

How I CASEd SUOC410

  • Used the same card sketch.
  • Added plaid patterned paper to the bottom half of the card.
  • Added embossing.
  • The focal point was a circular image in the center of the card.
  • The sentiment was toward the bottom of the card.
Rust colored card with cream rectangle on card interior with small stamped flower watercolored with same rust colored petals and green leaves.

How was this card different from SUOC410 sample card:

  • Fall instead of summer theme
  • Different color palatte
  • Embossing was on top half of card instead of circle of featured image
  • Featured image did not have circular frame behind it
  • Sentiment was stamped directly on the patterned paper
